Seerah 23: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as a Ruler
Friday Mar 27, 2020
Friday Mar 27, 2020
Soon after emigrating to Madinah and making sure that the pillars of the new Islamic State were well established on strong bases of administrative, political and ideological unity, the Prophet (ﷺ) commenced to establish regular and clearly-defined relations with non-Muslims. All these were to commandments of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). All of these efforts were exerted solely to build the State with a solid foundation and can defend itself. Additionally, the efforts were undertaken to do the dawah of Islam and take it to the Arabian Peninsula. Geographically, the closest people to Madinah were the Jews. They harbored evil intentions, and nursing bitter grudge but they showed neither the least resistance nor the slightest animosity. The Prophet ratified a treaty with them with clauses that provided full freedom in faith and wealth. The speaker details the most important provisions of the treaty and connects it to the fact that Madinah was a State and the Prophet Muhammad (Saw) was ruling over the people as a messenger implementing the commandments of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). Finally, the speaker contrasts Islam's System of Ruling with that of systems today to help us understand the superiority of the Islam to any other system.

Seerah 22: Building a New Society in Madinah
Thursday Mar 19, 2020
Thursday Mar 19, 2020
The first task to which the Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) attended on his arrival in Madinah was the construction of a Mosque, in the very site where his camel knelt down. In Islam, the mosque is a noble institution used by Muslims to worship Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى). The speaker provides us insight on the establishment of the first Masjid (Al-Masjid an-Nabawī) in Madinah for worship. He explains how worship does not mean salah (prayer) solely, but it covers the broader scope that encompasses all activities of Muslims which can form the value of taqwa. The Mosque being thus constructed, the Prophet Muhammad(saw) next turned his attention to cementing the ties of mutual brotherhood amongst the Muslims of Madinah, Al-Ansar (the Helpers) and Al-Muhajirun (the Emigrants). The speaker explains in incredible detail on the code of brotherhood among believers known as the Charter of Islamic Alliance and how we as Muslims should take lessons from it for our understanding our relationships with Muslims around the globe. The speaker leaves us with a profound points to ponder that there is indeed a complementary individualistic aspect and a societal aspect of Islam that must be understand to truly live the complete way of life. Lastly, the speaker points out the importance of the Madinah State and the desperate need today for its rival for the implementation of Islam.

Furthermore, the Ittiba'(following) of the Prophet (saw) is stressed numerous times in the Qur'an as a way of pleasing Allah (Swt). The speaker details how the Sunnah should be taken and explains the importance of following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw).

It was during the pilgrimage season, in the eleventh year of Prophethood, that six people from Madinah (Yathreb) embraced Islam and promised to communicate the Message of Islam their city. The Prophet(saw) gave them the Message of of Islam and the embraced Islam. The six converts remained steady to the cause and they preached the Islam with full zeal and devotion with the result that they succeeded in winning followers for Islam from amongst their fellow citizens. It was reported that hardly was there a house in Madinah not talking curiously and enthusiastically about the Messenger of Allâh[pbuh]. In the same year, the Prophet(saw) concluded a marriage contract with ‘Aishah(r), , when she was six of age and consummated his marriage with her in Shawwal, the year 1 A.H. in Madinah when she was nine. The speaker addresses the common issues brought forth of the marriage and provides insight on who has the right to define what action is right and what action is wrong. The following year, again on the occasion of the pilgrimage, there came a group of twelve men from Madinah ready to acknowledge Muhammad (saw) as their Prophet- The first Pledge of 'Aqabah. After the First Pledge of 'Aqabah, the Prophet(saw) sent to Madinah (Yathrib) Mus‘ab bin ‘Umair Al-‘Abdari [R], the first Muslim ‘ambassador’ to teach the people the doctrines of Islam, give them practical guidance and make attempts at propagating the Islam. The speaker provides us a valuable lesson for our society today when he analyses in great depth the response of the people to the call of Islam. Truly, the lesson provides insight on Muslims should embrace Islam not only in our understanding but also in our actions.
